Update on Monaghan County Libraries and FAI Football Themed Activity Book for Schoolchildren

- Football themed schools activity book now available to all primary schools nationwide

Following on from the success of the Monaghan County Libraries and the Football Association of Ireland pilot project to produce a football themed activity book for schoolchildren aged 10-14 years old, the FAI are delighted to announce we have a limited amount of hard copies available to interested primary schools nationwide. The schools activity book project is aligned to the national Right to Read Programme to promote literacy and reading development for people of all ages and backgrounds. By utilising the popularity of football and the 2022 World Cup, the activity book has been developed to assist teachers in the classroom and provide an educational resource for parents and guardians at home.

The activity book contains many different activities that covers a range of subjects including English, Irish, Mathematics, History, and Geography which are all delivered via the game of football. The cross-curricular nature of the activity book was a key aim of the project to assist teachers in the classroom and align to the desired learning outcomes of the targeted age group. Currently, the project has seen all 5th and 6th class pupils in the 61 primary schools in Monaghan receive a hard copy of the activity book.

The aim now is to distribute 10,000 hard copies of the schools activity book to any primary school who registers their interest via the link below. The distribution of the schools activity book will be on a first come first serve basis and is open to 6th class pupils only so we are asking schools to please register your interest as early as possible.

Each school who registers their interest and sends in a photograph of their 6th class pupils using the activity book in the classroom or at home will be entered into a prize draw for a school visit by our FAI Communications Manager. This visit will involve a presentation on how to write a match report, the importance of literacy skills, and a Q&A session. Closing date for applications is December 21st 2022.
