REPORT | Scotland 1-3 WU16

The Ireland Women’s Under-16s finished off a productive week in Edinburgh with a 3-1 victory over Scotland in Oriam Sports Performance Centre on Thursday.

First-half goals from Camille Adams and Sarah McCaffrey set Ireland on their way before Madison McGuane extended their lead, which they held onto in spite of the hosts getting one back.

This result meant that Tom Elmes' squad had scored six goals across two International Friendly games against good opposition - a sure sign that this group of young players are learning and developing fast as a team.

Elmes opted to make changes for this game to ensure every player received sufficient game-time but it did not alter their approach as once again Ireland set the tempo with their positive, attacking play.

Charlton Athletic defender Adams got them off the mark on 14 minutes before Dundalk midfielder McCaffrey made it 2-0 on 25 minutes.

The Girls in Green had found their rhythm and went further ahead when Pike Rovers star McGuane scored on 69 minutes. A late goal conceded did not matter much in the end.

Elmes, and his staff, will be upbeat from this final camp of the year and the progress being made by this group of players.

Ireland: Laura Fanning; Kate Jones, Michaela Hand (Heather Loomes 57), Camille Adams (Abigail Bradshaw 57), Keelin Comiskey (Aibhlinn Cotter 74); Sarah McCaffrey (Aoife Sheridan 74), Madison McGuane; Sophia Leonard (Finley Newell 74), Lauren Bowe (Ella Kelly 46), Caelan Bacon (Anna Butler 46); Katie Ray (Leah McGrath 65).
