REPORT | GU16 | Ireland 4-3 Cymru

The first of two International Friendly games in the FAI National Training Centre finished in a 4-3 win for the Ireland Girls' Under-16s against Cymru.

Assembling a group of players together for the first time is always going to be a challenge, but Head Coach Tom Elmes - and his support staff - know what they are doing and that showed in this performance.

Twenty-three different players featured as Ireland clicked straight away and went ahead on 10 minutes through attacker Ciara Milton, who has been making notable strides at Shamrock Rovers.

Cymru pulled a goal back after the half-time break where Ireland changed all players in their original starting line-up. Shelbourne ace Halle Harcourt put the home team back in front on 69 minutes.

The competitive encounter saw Cymru brings the scores back level again before taking the lead themselves. But Ireland showed a fighting spirit to make it 3-3 with North Carolina's Chloe Garcia-Maxwell scoring.

With time running out, Harcourt got her second of the game to seal a dramatic win for Elmes' squad and show that there is a huge amount of promise within this group of players.
