The Republic of Ireland MU16s suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to France in Clairefontaine this afternoon. In a highly competitive encounter at the French national football centre, the young Boys in Green showed great character to stay in the game until the final whistle.

France opened the scoring early on through Nolanh Come, who found the net in the 5th minute. Ireland responded brilliantly in the second half, with Ronan Keating grabbing a well-deserved equaliser in the 64th minute. However, the hosts managed to secure the win late on when Lohan Vibert struck in the 76th minute.

Despite the result, it has been a hugely productive international window for the squad. Having faced a tough 4-0 defeat earlier in the week against the same opposition, today’s performance showed significant progress and resilience. This positive week against top-class opposition will provide the players with invaluable experience as they continue their international development.
