In conjunction with Technological University Dublin, the FAI Datathon will invite performance analysts, data scientists, machine learning engineers and sports technology professionals to tackle a real football problem using real football data.
The FAI Datathon will provide a platform for those currently working in sport, as well as emerging analytical talent looking to pursue a career in football. The event will promote a collaborative, cross-functional problem-solving environment, challenging participants to build an analytical framework to evaluate physical and performance dominance in underage international football.
The two-day event will begin on Thursday, October 28th with an interactive online mentoring session before participants join an in-person session on Friday, October 29th at TU Dublin’s campus in Tallaght. The second day will focus on team mentoring, presentation development and delivering a detailed final solution.
FAI Head of Performance Support Jason Cowman said: “The importance of performance support in football has never been greater, and it is vital that the right data is collated and used in the right way to maximise performance for individual players as well as teams.
“Datathon is an exciting opportunity for performance analysts, PhD and master’s researchers, data scientists, machine learning engineers and sports technology professionals to build a model that measures performance dominance through contested moments in a competitive underage international game.
“The challenge being set is one that will undoubtedly intrigue the best emerging analytical talent around the country, while there is also the opportunity to undertake a four-month placement with the FAI Performance Support Team.”
The application window for FAI Datathon will remain open until 12:00 on Monday, October 26th.
