The competition was inaugurated in 1967 and for many years was dominated by the Dublin Leagues. There has been a much more representative spread of winners throughout the country in recent seasons with the Wexford League emerging as a vibrant force. The trophy was brought back to Dublin in 2009 by the Dublin Athletic Union League.
