Chiedozie Ogbene
Forward 10CapsBorn in Enugu State, Nigeria, Ogbene moved over to Cork, Ireland at the age of six. A skilled GAA player for local side Nemo Rangers, Ogbene played for a number of schoolboy teams in Cork before joining Cork City.
One of the stars of their UEFA Youth League campaign, the first Irish team to play in the competition, Ogbene broke through to the senior team before a move to Limerick.
It was when he moved to Limerick that his form began to capture the imagination and a move to Brentford followed in 2018.
After one year in London, Ogbene moved to Rotherham and despite an injury-plagued 2020-21 campaign, Stephen Kenny called him up to the senior squad for the first time.
He made his debut for Ireland in the 0-0 draw against Hungary becoming the first African-born player to play for Ireland.
Chiedozie has gone from strength to strength in an Ireland shirt since making his debut and has scored in qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg, and in the 2-2 international friendly draw against Belgium.
