Underage winners confirmed for 'Three' FAI Awards

The Football Association of Ireland is delighted to confirm the first selection of winners of the ‘Three’ FAI International Awards.
4th Aug 2020

Waterford native Lee O’Connor follows on from last year’s triumph in the Under-19 Men’s category by winning the Under-21 Player of the Year award, in a year that also saw him line out for the Ireland Men’s Senior and Under-19 teams.

Dubliner Jonathan Afolabi is named as the Under-19 Men’s winner after starring for Tom Mohan’s side in last year’s UEFA U19 European Championships in Armenia, where he made UEFA’s Team of the Tournament.

Midfielder Joe Hodge is recognised for excelling at the UEFA U17 European Championships, which were hosted in Ireland last summer, by winning the Under-17 Men’s award.

Galway native Sadhbh Doyle is named as the Under-19 Women’s Player of the Year and Cork’s Eabha O’Mahony picks up the Under-17 Women’s award after producing stellar performances at their respective age levels.

Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne claims the SSE Airtricity League Player of the Year following a stand-out season where he claimed Extra.ie FAI Cup glory and earned his first Republic of Ireland senior cap.

Winners of the other categories will be announced later this week.
