Under-17s ready for clash with FYR Macedonia in Skopje

The Republic of Ireland Under-17 side face their second game in the UEFA Championships Qualifying Round Group 10 on Tuesday when they meet hosts FYR Macedonia (2.00pm Irish).

Tom Mohan's side go into the clash at Boris Trajkovski Stadium in Skopje knowing that everything is to play for after both opening round fixtures ended in 1-1 draws.

Ireland drew with Sweden on Saturday while the Macedonians were held by Romania on Sunday in a game that was put back 24 hours due to food poisoning in the Macedonian camp.

That resulted in all of the second round of games being put back by a day so Mohan and his staff had another day to work with his men ahead of this clash.

"We've had an extra day's preparations and I feel everything has gone well for us from that perspective," said Mohan.

"With both the opening games ending in 1-1 draws, there is nothing to separate anybody so all fours teams will go into this round looking to take control of the group.

"I was very pleased with how we did on Saturday as the heat was very intense - over 30C degrees - but our lads finished the game strongly and showed incredible fitness levels to do so.

"The draw with Sweden was fair enough as a result but we were comfortable for long periods of the game so there would be a small bit of disappointment that we conceded an equaliser but overall we finished strongly and produced a lot of good football.

"I feel the lads have put in the work for this game and it's now going out there and looking to get a result to show for that work."
