UEFA Women’s U17 Championship qualifiers postponed

The Republic of Ireland Women's U17 UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase game with Poland, due to be played tomorrow in Ukraine has been postponed following an announcement by the Ukrainian Government that they have declared tomorrow (Monday, April 12th) a national day of mourning following the disastrous event which seen the tragic death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others when their plane crashed in Russia.

The Republic of Ireland Women's U17 UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase game with Poland, due to be played tomorrow in Ukraine has been postponed following an announcement by the Ukrainian Government that they have declared tomorrow (Monday, April 12th) a national day of mourning following the disastrous event which seen the tragic death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others when their plane crashed in Russia.


At a meeting in Simferopol, Ukraine where the UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase is taking place, a unanimous decision between the four competing teams from Sweden, the Republic of Ireland, Poland and Ukraine, decided to postpone two of tomorrow's games until Tuesday, April 13th, a decision which was endorsed by UEFA.


Republic of Ireland manager, Noel King (pictured above) expressed his sympathies to the Polish people, "This is obviously a tragic event for everybody involved and I think that in this situation, football is secondary in all of these matters. We are fully respective of the wishes of the Ukrainian Government and in solidarity with Poland, I feel it was the right thing to do in this circumstance. We offer our deepest sympathy to the Polish people and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers in these difficult times."
