UEFA announce details of U19 elite qualifying phase

UEFA have announced the details for the UEFA U19 Championship, elite qualifying phase where Sean McCaffrey’s Irish side will travel to Belgium to compete against Sweden, Switzerland and hosts, Belgium for only one qualifying spot for the finals of the UEFA Championship of 2008/'09 to be held in the Ukraine in July.

The Irish get their competition underway on the 5th June against Belgium at the Complex Op de Keiberg in Tongeren before playing Switzerland at the same venue on the 7th June and they play their finals game against Sweden on 10th June at the Sport Centrum in Tessenderio.

The Republic of Ireland emerged successfully from the preliminary qualifying group of the 2009 UEFA Championship in Malta in November, 2008. France won the group and Ireland were second as Malta and Liechtenstein were eliminated
