Republic of Ireland Under-17 manager Sean McCaffrey has handed Leicester City defender Kevin Knight his first cap at this level for today's Under-17 UEFA qualifying first phase qualifier against mini-group hosts Bulgaria in Dobrich (kick-off 2pm, Irish time)

Knight missed the squad's warm-up tournament in Poland earlier this month due to injury but has recovered and will slot in at left-back for the opening qualifier.

Ireland are in a four-nation group along with the host nation, Latvia and Sweden vying to secure a top-two finish which would guarantee them qualification into the Elite section of the qualifying series to take place early next year.

McCaffrey's side will meet Latvia on Tuesday before wrapping up the group on Friday against Sweden.

The Swedes defeated Latvia 2-0 in today's other game, courtesy of two goals in the final 12 minutes.
