U17 REPORT: Ireland 2-0 Turkey - Corkman Idah nets
Idah missed a glorious chance to give Colin O’Brien’s charges the lead on 24 minutes when he scooped Luke Nolan’s cross over from inside the six-yard box and then in the 37th minute Glen McAuley had a shot saved by Berke Ozer when he really should have pulled the ball back for a tap-in by Luke Nolan who was up in support and unmarked.
But two goals either side of half-time by Cork man Idah did the trick.
The home team deservedly took the lead through Idah’s headed goal after Dominic Peppard’s cross was headed back across goal by Rowan Roache for Idah to leap and nod the ball home at the St Anne’s end.
The goal injected even more confidence into the Irish lads and early in the second half Roache fired over from 30 yards range and then Liverpool’s Glen McAuley couldn’t believe his luck when he steered Conor Coventry’s pass over the bar ten minutes into the restart.
Idah made it 2-0 on 55 minutes when he re-acted the quickest in the box to tap in after Ozer spilled McAuley’s free kick at his feet.
Best for Ireland were two-goal Adam Idah, Luke Nolan, Glen McAuley, Aaron Bolger and skipper Lee O’Connor.
