The Science of Football

The Science of Football

We got together with the BT Young Scientist competition to get kids thinking of how science and football can benefit each other.

There are many ways in which science currently plays a role in the game, e.g. GPS analysis (as evidenced above by Sean McCullagh who is showing Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill how he tracks players' performances).

Yet, there are so many avenues that have not been explored and that is why we have set the challenge for kids between the ages of 8 and 14 years old to come up with a new idea that fuses science and football together.

Whether it is a way of gauging concussion, or aiding a referee, or simply helping a player to score more goals, we want to hear all about your ideas.
