Supporters to receive 65 per cent in away ticketing structure

The Football Association of Ireland confirms a restructuring of its ticket allocation scheme will see 65 per cent going to the most loyal supporters ahead of the EURO 2020 Qualifying campaign, which will kick off with a trip to Gibraltar in March 2019.
25th Jan 2019

UEFA announced that Gibraltar will host the Republic of Ireland at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar on Saturday, March 23 following necessary upgrades being made to their stadia and operations.

The FAI has secured 800 tickets for the most loyal Ireland supporters to attend that Group D opener and these will be allocated through a distribution scheme that has given supporters a 25 per cent increase overall.

The new ticketing allocation structure is as follows:

65 per cent will be allocated to independent supporters who are members of Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Clubs and Fans' Direct.

20 per cent will be distributed to supporters from affiliated football Leagues and more than 2,000 clubs which fall under their remit, Board and National Council members, players/staff, and Club Ireland members.

15 per cent will be provided to supporters travelling with the FAI's official travel partner, Abbey Travel - these supporters have their details of match attendance at away games logged should they ever decide to apply independently for tickets.

News of the revised ticketing allocation structure has been welcomed by the Confederation of Republic of Ireland Supporters Clubs, who have been working closely with the FAI over recent years.

"The Confederation of Republic of Ireland Supporters Clubs (CRISC) believes the decision to increase the away allocation to 65% is a hugely positive one," read a CRISC statement.

"This comes on the back of very positive discussions involving the FAI and CRISC. This is also in addition to recent dialogue between the FAI and YBIG Mandate and is a real positive development ahead of an exciting Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, starting away to Gibraltar in March.

"It is a great boost for Irish supporters and an extremely positive outcome achieved by strong and progressive discussions. This is particularly welcome news as we look forward to showing our unwavering support to recently appointed manager Mick McCarthy and his team as they look to qualify for EURO 2020."

The You Boys In Green Independent Supporters Mandate Committee shared similar sentiments with their statement and also echoed the work done in consultation with the FAI.

"The YBIG Independent Supporters Mandate Committee welcomes the FAI decision and consider the increase to 65% a very positive step forward," read a statement.

"This follows constructive meetings between the Committee and the FAI, in addition to the FAI’s meetings with the Confederation of Republic of Ireland Supporters Clubs (CRISC).

"We believe that this decision is a reflection of the work that ourselves and the Association have undertaken to rebuild a working relationship with independent fans.

"As per our mandate, we look forward to continued engagement with the FAI and CRISC on any matters that affect independent supporters.

"May we also take this opportunity to wish our members, all Ireland fans and the new management, team and staff a very happy and successful 2019."
