Robbie Keane, captain of Ireland and of Tottenham Hotspur, was the highest profile transfer on transfer deadline day when he agreed today to join Celtic.

Keane was one of several Irish internationals on the move after spending twelve months at 'Spurs. He travelled to Glasgow today to agree a loan transfer until the end of the current season.

Also on the move was striker Leon Best, who has played six times for Ireland. Best, who is 24, was transferred from Coventry City to Newcastle United on a three-and-a-half year contract.

Left-winger Keith Treacy was signed by Preston on transfer from Blackburn Rovers. Treacy, who is 22, has yet to play for Ireland's senior team and has played for Ireland at all of the under-age levels. He played for Belvedere in Dublin.

Daryl Murphy is another striker who completed a move today. He was transferred on loan from Sunderland to Ipswich Town. Murphy, who played for Waterford United before moving to England, was signed on loan until the end of the season.
