Republic of Ireland captain and leading scorer Robbie Keane is backing his team to usurp France on their home patch and clinch the World Cup spot on offer.

Trailing 1-0 from Saturday's first-leg, Ireland are up against it at the Stade De France but the Spurs forward is predicting a tense night for the hosts.

He said: "We know exactly our job that we have to do and, if we don't do our job, we won't be going to the World Cup, it's as simple as that.

"By no means is it going to be easy but I certainly believe, with this squad of players we have, there is certainly a twist in this game...there's no question about that.'

"Overall, in the campaign itself, we haven't lost away from home and that has given us a lot of confidence.

"The manager has instilled that into us because the performances away from home have certainly been good and that's something we can take into tomorrow also.

"It has been a decent campaign for us - but it will mean nothing if we don't produce tonight.

He added: 'We are in this campaign to be at the World Cup and tonight will decide it.'

"We created a few chances on Saturday but we need to create more clear-cut chances. We had a lot of half chances in the last few games but you have to credit the opposition as well.

"Their goalkeeper was very quick to come out and did well on a few other occasions. If mine was a couple of yards further back it might have been easier but it was only two yards away. Liam was unlucky too with the follow-up."
