NOEL KING’S Republic of Ireland U21 side have drawn 0-0 with Denmark in a friendly international in Fredericia today.

In a game played in searing heat the Irish had to operate with ten men for 40 minutes following the dismissal of defender Sean McGinty for a foul on Youssef Toutouh early in the second half.

The Irish created a couple of chances on the break with Blackburn defender Anthony O'Connor unlucky to steer his header just off target from a Sean Murray free in the 60th minute.

Aston Villa’s Samir Carruthers came close to snatching a decisive goal in the 78th minute but he just failed to connect with a dangerous low cross by Michael Harriman.

Ireland’s substitute goalkeeper Sean McDermott made two impressive saves from Bassel Jradi to deny the Danes in the 83rd minute.

The Irish begin their UEFA U21 Championships qualifying campaign against the Faroe Islands on August 14.
