PREVIEW: WU19 v Belgium
In the squad’s previous matches in the UEFA WU19 Championship Elite Round in April, the team had a 2-0 win against Poland, a 3-0 win against Azerbaijan, and a 1-0 defeat against Germany.
The WU19s narrowly missed qualification for the UEFA WU19 European Championships as Germany topped the group.
Returning players from the April campaign for today’s match include Amanda McQuillan, Niamh Prior, Lucy McCartan, Dearbhaile Beirne, Jess Nolan, Jamie Finn, Chloe Moloney, Evelyn Daly, Sophie Watters.
Dave Connell is hopeful for his squad heading into their first match as a new team.
Connell said: “It's a great opportunity for my staff and myself to have a look at this squad for the first time.
“Although we have retained 12 players from our campaign last April, this will be the first time this squad has played together.
“There are 10 of last years U17s extended squad performing at U19s for the first time.
“Belgium are always a very difficult opponent particularly at home but we have trained well this week and its all about performing well and preparing for our upcoming European games against Macedonia, Wales and Italy.”
