MU19 | UK training camp pleases Mohan

Republic of Ireland Men’s Under-19s Manager Tom Mohan says he was pleased with his three-day UK-based camp as he prepares for next month’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship Qualifiers.

Mohan held the camp at Loughborough University, England with Ireland playing Nottingham Forest's U18s & U21s in two behind closed doors friendlies.

In total, 30 players were brought in for the camp, which gave an opportunity for Mohan to view options for the upcoming U19 EUROS qualifiers in Wales in September.

Ireland are drawn with Gibraltar, Hungary and Wales in Group 4.

Speaking after the camp, the U19s Head Coach said: “Everything was great we had three days with the players – 30 players in total.

“We had two games against Nottingham Forest with both games having a good intensity and tempo to them. That is exactly the sort of test we wanted as the games had a competitive edge to them.

Overall the camp was great, in September we have the qualifiers and we wanted to take this opportunity look at as many players as possible – some have been in with the 19s before and for some this was their first time.

Mohan said there will be a final homebased assessment day for players before they get into qualification action.

He added: “Obviously a lot of players were unavailable to us due to playing for their clubs and one or two who are injured but it widens the pool for us and gives an opportunity to bring lads in to see what is required to play international football and see our own system and style."
