Republic of Ireland Under-17 manager Sean McCaffrey has named a squad of 18 players for the Under-17 UEFA qualifying elite phase qualifiers which will be held in Greece from 19-24 March.

Ireland will play games against the host nation Greece, Finland and Austria with the aim of topping the group to progress to the European Championship finals in Liechtenstein in May. Following the withdrawal of tournament hosts Liechtenstein there will now be an additional place at the finals which will be filled by the best second place team.

Manager Sean McCaffrey said, "I have confidence in this group of players that will travel to Greece on Monday. If we go into the games with a full fit squad, we'll do well. At the moment there are injury doubts over promising players such as Manchester United's Sean McGinty and Reading's David Murphy so it will be a major plus if they are fit. The group is very even, every team will feel that they can qualify so it will make for a very competitive group."

The Irish booked their place in the elite phase by finishing top of their first section group in October, courtesy of victories over Bulgaria and Latvia coupled with a scoreless draw in the last match against fellow qualifiers Sweden. McCaffrey's side can take confidence from their excellent performances against Hungary defeating them 2-0 and 1-0 respectively in a recent double header friendly.
