Kevin Doyle off the mark for Wolves

Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle struck his first goal in Wolves colours on Sunday when he opened the scoring in their 2-1 victory over Fulham at Molineux.

The Wexford man struggled with a hernia injury after joining the promoted English Premier League side from Reading in the summer but showed he's back on form with a great headed goal against the Cottagers.

Doyle, who was partnered in attack by Irish international teammate Andy Keogh, netted after 18 minutes and was later substituted 13 minutes from time.

His first Wolves goal is good news for Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni, who will name his squad later this week for the World Cup double-header qualifier against Italy on October 10 and Montenegro on October 14. Doyle supplied Ireland's first goal in the 2-1 victory away to Cyprus earlier this month and captained his country for the first time three days later when they overcome South Africa in a friendly match at Thomond Park.
