Kenny launches Sean McCaffrey patron scheme
Sean McCaffrey was a former manager of the U-17 and U-19 teams, and his work developing players for the senior international team left an incredible legacy.
The likes of Robbie Brady, Jeff Hendrick, James McCarthy, Darren Randolph and Aidan McGeady are all players who would have benefitted through Sean's guidance and coaching.
The foundation was set up by Sean's friends and family members to keep his legacy alive, and use his name as a vehicle to give opportunities to young footballers.
The foundation also supports the Cavan Renal Unit, at Cavan Monaghan Hospital, and animal welfare services. As part of the new scheme, The Sean McCaffrey Foundation are seeking Patrons to pledge €100 per year to provide a baseline of funding that will support ongoing initiatives and are reaching out to the football family for support.
"With fundraising being so difficult over the past 12 months, we hope that the Patron Scheme will give us a sustainable base of funding to support our work going forward.
"We would be grateful of support from anybody who worked with Sean, played for him or knew of the good work he done locally and across the country," said Brendan McCaffrey from the Foundation.
"Sean had great service to the FAI as manager of the international teams for a decade but his impact in the Monaghan-Cavan area to young footballers was profound. The ideas he had helped generations of young people in the area and the foundation helps continue his fantastic legacy," said Ireland manager Stephen Kenny.
"This scheme will provide crucial funds to that initiative and I'm delighted to support the launch of the new Patron scheme."
