John O'Shea announced as U17 EURO ambassador
With 73 days to go until the tournament kicks off, O'Shea is thrilled to be involved in the tournament, 21 years after winning the title in Scotland.
"I am delighted to be the Tournament Ambassador for this year’s UEFA Under-17 European Championships," said O'Shea.
"In 1998, I was lucky enough to play in the tournament, and lift the trophy in Scotland with my team-mates. It remains one of the highlights of my career.
"The opportunity to play in an international tournament on home soil is a rare one for any player, and I look forward to seeing how Colin O’Brien and his team do this May.
"Ireland will welcome another 15 countries to our shores for the tournament and it will be fantastic to see these stars of the future play in venues all around the country, including in my own home city of Waterford."
Colin O'Brien's side just completed two international friendlies against Poland and Belgium, while they will host Finland in two matches at home in March as they continue preparation for the finals tournament.
Waterford's RSC hosts the opening match between Ireland and Finland on March 22 and 7pm, before they meet once more three days later on March 25, in Tallaght Stadium at 1pm
Ireland Under-17s will not know their opponents for the UEFA Under-17 European Championships until April 5. The Finals Draw will take place in Dublin, showing the route for all 16 teams to get the the Final on May 19.
Tickets for the tournament will go on sale on www.fai.ie from 22 February at 11am for the General Public. Prices for Adults start at €5, with all Under-16s getting free entry for games.
