Winger Mark Yeates has completed his transfer from Colchester United to Middlesbrough.

24-year old Dubliner Yeates won four Under-21 caps for the Republic of Ireland and also lined out in the B International against Scotland in November 2007.

Yeates, who started out professionally at Tottenham Hotspur after moving cross-channel from Cherry Orchard, joined Colchester in 2007 and scored 13 goals during last season's League One campaign.

The midfielder has vowed to help Middlesbrough return to the English Premier League at the first attempt, following their relegation to the Championship last month.

After putting pen to paper on a three year contract, he told the club's official website: "The club belongs in the Premier League. The fans deserve to be there and I can't wait to play in front of them.

"It's a Premier League club in my mind - all you have to do is look around the facilities, the training ground, the stadium; everything is spot on."
