Ireland v Georgia: Previous Encounters

Since their first meeting in 2003, the Republic of Ireland have maintained an advantage over Georgia - at least in terms of results - with nine wins and one draw.

However, the results do not reveal just how competitive each game has been between the two teams. There has only been one game that could be percieved as a dominant performance when Ireland recorded a 4-0 friendly win in 2013.

Usually there has been one or two goals that has separated the two teams following a thrilling contest and that is why Mick McCarthy has been working hard ahead of the EURO 2020 qualifier in Tbilisi on October 12.

Still, Ireland have been able to come out on top in nine of 10 meetings and that history should bring some confidence to the squad. Of particular importance is that Ireland have claimed three victories away from home against the same opponent.

There have been special moments on the road with Gary Doherty's late winner, Glenn Whelan's first senior goal, Aiden McGeady's International Goal of the Year, and Shane Duffy's powerful header.
