Ireland U18: Ireland held to a draw by hosts Sweden
Ireland will feel unfortunate to come away from the game without victory after a solid defensively performance in the first half and an attacking display in the second half that resulted with Filip Jorgensen in the Swedish goal receiving man-of-the-match.
The Under-18s were determined to put Thursday’s disappointing loss against Austria behind them with captain Timi Sobowale and Alex Dunne giving solid performances in the opening 45 minutes.
The hosts did have a stand-out attempt on 38 minutes when Jimmy Corcoran was forced to get down well to prevent the home side taking the lead.
In the second half Ireland played more on the front foot and had numerous chances to opening the scoring. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Conor Carty was brought on after 55 minutes and he forced a great save from Jorgensen
A few minutes later a great run by Grabriel Adebambo let in Charlie McCann who forced a point blank save from the keeper.
McCann and Carty linked up with a one-two on the edge of the area but again Jorgensen was there to prevent Ireland taking the lead.
It would be the story of the second half as Ireland couldn’t find a break through and had to settle for the draw.
