THE Republic of Ireland U17 squad will play the first game of an invitational tournament in Hungary tomorrow when they meet the hosts in Dorog.

Head Coach Tom Mohan is keen to see his players lay down a marker for the season ahead with Ireland hosting their UEFA U17 Championships Preliminary Round group in September.

This week's tournament will also include clashes with Malta and Serbia.

"The players have all settled in well," he said. "We also trained twice in Dublin then travelled here last night. We'll train again this evening.

"The conditions are mild enough here. It's not overly hot but it may be very hot tomorrow. Either way those conditions are something to experience and adapt to.

"Naturally all of the boys are eager to impress. They want to make the squad for the Europeans and they're in the position to impress over the next few days against good opponents.

"We've a home-based squad in action this week too so it's a matter of getting to see as many players as we can. The players know there is no guarantees for anybody.

"All of the players in the squad this week will get the chance to play and we'll experiment with different formations and ideas. We've a lot of attacking players in this age-group so we'll have a style of play to suit them."
