Ireland lift trophy at Homeless World Cup

The Republic of Ireland Homeless Team will be returning from the World Cup in Cardiff with a trophy after winning the Glyndwr Cup.

Ireland beat Hungary 6-5 to finish their tournament on a high with goals from Jordan Scally, Shane Lambe, Lar Bryan and Dean Fitzpatrick. 

The win brings a successful conclusion to the competiition for Ireland who have beaten the likes of the Netherlands, Italy and Sweden. Their failure to qualify for the Quarter Finals of the World Cup on Thursday saw them enter the Glyndwr Cup section of the tournament where they saw off Norway 8-0 in Friday’s Semi Final before going on to lift the trophy.

Team Organiser Sean Kavanagh said: “After a week where the players have shown a lot of passion and committment it was excellent top it off with an excellent performance that sees us returning from another Homeless World Cup with a trophy."
