Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has allowed some of his senior players - Robbie Keane, Shay Given, Richard Dunne and Kevin Kilbane - to return to their clubs following Saturday's World Cup qualifying victory over Cyprus in Nicosia.

In addition, Stephen Hunt has been given permission to depart due to personal reasons.

The absence of the five players, all of whom started in the 2-1 weekend win, provides Trapattoni with the option of trying some of his fringe players in tomorrow's friendly match against South Africa at Thomond Park (7.30pm).

Trap has added defender Darren O'Dea, a recent loan signing by Reading from Celtic, to the squad and the former Ireland Under-21 captain may earn his first senior cap in Limerick.

The Italian also indicated on Sunday that Kieren Westwood, Liam Lawrence, Andy Keogh, Caleb Folan, Eddie Nolan and Leon Best could be amongst those to get their chance to impress this week.
