Exciting group for WNT in World Cup draw

Republic of Ireland WNT drawn into Group B for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

The Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team has been drawn into Group B following the Official Draw for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Vera Pauw’s squad will come up against Australia, Canada and Nigeria with all three games taking place in Australia.

The winners of Group B will play the runners-up from Group D in the Round of 16, while the runners-up will take on the winners of Group D. Ireland have played Australia only once at senior level, in a 3-2 win in Tallaght Stadium in September 2021.

A single meeting with Canada took place in the Cyprus Cup in 2014, while they have yet to come up against Nigeria. Preparations for next summer’s tournament have already begun, while a delegation of FAI International Operations and Marketing/Communications personnel will travel to each city, stadium and base camp next week.

Plans for an international camp in November are being explored and there are also international windows in February, April and June next year before the World Cup starts on July 20th.
