Defence Forces beaten 4-0 in World Military Games

The Irish Defence Forces lost their opening game of the World Military Games 4-0 to Algeria.
16th Oct 2019

The Algerian side made up of semi and professional footballers put in a clinical performance and took the lead after six minutes. Ireland responded well forcing the Algerian goalkeeper into two excellent saves.

The killer blow came just before half time which came as a result of a breakaway from the Algerians to make it 2-0 at the break.

In the second half Algeria were happy to sit back and hit Ireland on the counter attacks and scored two in quick succession on 70 minutes -  ending a spirited Irish second half display.

Ireland fought to the end and Ross McCarthy was thwarted by a top quality save with minutes to go.

The Irish team will take time to regroup before a key game against the USA on Friday, October 18.  (KO 4am Irish time).
