Davis confirms squad for UEFA Regions Cup
Davis' squad will be drawn from Connacht and Munster after their play-off victory over the Leinster and Ulster select.
The Irish representatives will meet the hosts, the Macedonia representatives and the Slovenian qualifiers.
The 30 sides who enter at this stage are joined by the two teams from the preliminary round. These sides are divided into eight groups of four, with the winners of each mini-tournament earning a place in the finals.
Ireland won the UEFA Regions Cup as hosts of the final tournament in Dublin last year.
"After our two trials in Connacht and Munster, and several training sessions in Limerick, we have finally got to our squad of 18," said Davis.
"The response from the players in training has been excellent which made our job harder. There was not a lot between some of the players and there were some difficult decisions that had to be made.
"The new format meant we were unable to use some of the players that won the tournament back in 2015 but this has meant opportunities for others .Ken Hoey will captain the side again. Ken leads by example and will be vitally important for us with his experience to aid the younger players in the squad.
"Also from last year's squad are Brendan O'Connell, Jimmy Carr and Chris Higgins, so we have some experience there to add to the hunger and desire the you will expect from the new players.
"Our first game against Italy is as tough as you could get at this stage so our preparation will be as detailed as possible. We now go into a training camp in the FAI National Training Centre in Abbotstown next weekend building up to our game against Northern Ireland in Roscommon on the 14th of September before we depart for Italy on the 25th."
