Republic of Ireland 0 - 0 Montenegro

In what was always going to be stern test for the young Boys in Green as part of their international development but they were left frustrated by their opponents in what was the third meeting between the countries at this level this season.
While the previous occasions ended in a win apiece in September (2-0 Ireland and 1-0 Montenegro), neither side could settle the trilogy and both will be looking for more positive results in their respective games tomorrow.
Head Coach Jason Donohue handed a first international start to UCD’s Sean Tully with Bohemian’s Sean Moore handed the captaincy in Ludbreg.
It was a game of very few chances and Ireland felt they should have had a penalty early on when Shamrock Rovers' Ike Orazi was brought down inside the penalty area but the referee waved played on.
In the fifth minute, St. Patrick’s Athletic’s, Marven Chan came close when he fired at goal but his effort could only find the side netting.
The best opportunity of the half came just before the break. Orazi was picked-out in space at the back post but with the angle against him his strike was saved by the feet of Danis Mukovic who did well to keep the scores level.
It would be a frustrating game for Ireland who found the Montenegro side difficult to breach and at half time Donohue introduced further attacking options in Afi Adebayo and Bez Agbontaen. Oisin Rabbette and Matthew Murray also came on for their first Ireland appearances.
The second half mirrored that of the first half, Ireland excellent in possession but unable to breach the Montenegro back-line who sat deep and reduced Donohue's side to long-range efforts.
They came agonisingly close in the 51st minute when a cross from the left fell to Agbontaen following a goal-mouth scramble, he prodded the ball towards goal but it was cleared blocked on the line as Ireland were thwarted once more.
Alain Kizenga and Niall McAndrew were brought on the hour mark for their first appearances for Ireland.
The young Boys in Green have a quick turnaround time for their next game when they take on Uzebekistan tomorrow at 4.15pm (Irish time).
