A goal a piece by Westport pair Adam Nugent and Daniel Kelly - who was captaining the side - a header from Sam Curtis and an own goal gave Ireland an impressive win in a game in which they dominated.

Ireland Under-15 Head Coach Jason Donohue named local boys Conor Walsh, Kelly and Nugent in his starting XI as he utilised his squad for their second game of the tournament.

The first clear cut chance fell to Ireland. Nugent had quick feet to find space on the edge of the area but his effort was easily saved by Høgni Heinason.

But Nugent didn’t have to wait long for a goal. Mark Tansey worked hard to fashion a chance down the left and when the keeper’s clearance ricocheted off a defender it allowed Nugent to compose himself and tap into an empty net for his third of the tournament.

Ireland almost doubled it shortly after. A dangerous cross goal fell to Eanna Fitzgerald but his sliding effort rebounded off the post and the ball was scrambled away.

Still the home side pushed for a second and Fitzgerald put Tansey through on goal but the Bray Wanderers man saw his effort well saved by Heinason.

After half time Tansey was involved again. He worked well down the right and crossed to Nugent but the striker’s side-footed effort didn’t have enough power to cross the line and was cleared.

However it wasn’t long before Donohue’s side went 2-0 up. A corner from the left was met by a powerful header by Curtis to double the lead.

Ireland almost made it three on 70 minutes when great skill by Kevin Zefi on the left allowed him to pick out Nugent but the forward saw his strike cannon off the bar before the ball was cleared.

Ireland went 3-0 ahead following an own goal. Zefi weaved down the left and saw his effort saved. The Faroe Islands attempted to clear but the ball came off the back of a defender and into their own net.

Zefi almost produced a wonder goal on 75 minutes. After winning the ball back and dribbling past his man, he tried to find the far corner but it was another fine save by Heinason.

Ireland found a fourth goal on 78 minutes through the captain and local boy Kelly. He was the quickest to a scramble in the box to steer home a goal which was very popular with the Westport crowd

Next up for the Under-15 side is unbeaten Luxembourg at Ballina Town on Monday, October 21.
