Trim Celtic FC were named the Aviva FAI Club of the Year for 2014 at the FAI's Festival of Football in Athlone.

The Meath club received the prestigious title ahead of the seven other nominees and along with being named Ireland's best club they received a cheque for '5,000 to help develop them further.

Trim Celtic were nominated in the Participation category along with Inter Kenmare and were also up against six other clubs from across the country, all of whom were nominated for achieving a standard of excellence in within their club.

The clubs; Trim Celtic (Meath), Inter Kenmare (Kerry), Mervue United (Galway), Home Farm FC (Dublin), Kilnamanagh FC (Dublin), Drogheda Boys (Louth), Geraldines FC (Limerick) and Manor Rangers (Sligo / Leitrim) all presented to the judging panel, which was headed by Donal Conway, Chairman of the FAI Underage Committee and includes representatives from FAI club Development, Carlton Hotels, Dublin City Council and Aviva.

The panel then deliberated on the winner and announced Trim Celtic FC as this year's Aviva FAI Club of the Year. They are the ninth winners of the award and the second Meath side to win the national award after Dunboyne AFC took the title of Club of the Year in 2009.

Dave Tully, President of Trim Celtic FC, said; "This is a huge honour for the club to be named Aviva Club of the Year. The Club is 50 years in existence and some great people have gone before us and we're just happy to be continuing their work. The award will generate great enthusiasm in the area, it will help with sponsors and will help in attracting more people to the Club. We will reinvest the winner's cheque into coaching and coaching equipment and this will help us to continue to grow. The great thing about our club is that it's one big family. We have 25 teams, everyone is welcome; boys, girls, aunts, uncles, grandparents and we pride ourselves on creating good role models for everyone involved in the club.

Donal Conway, Chair of the Aviva FAI Club of the Year Judging Panel, said; "Trim Celtic FC are hugely deserving winners of the Aviva Club of the Year. Their work in the 'Participation' category and in other areas of the club gave them the edge from the rest of the nominees this year. They are the perfect example of a club who offers more than just football to everyone. Their work in helping local charities is incredible. They are an integral part of their community since 1967 and provide excellence both on and off the pitch. I hope this award will help them to continue to grow the club and encourage other clubs across the country to aim for this level of excellence at their club."

Aviva, who are sponsor of the Club of the Year, are also involved in several other grassroots football programmes encouraging the growth of the game across the country. These include the FAI Junior Cup, Soccer Sisters and the FAI Primary School 5's. More information about the Aviva Club of the Year Award is available from and
