St. Leonard's Claim FAI Club Mark

St. Leonard's FC are the latest club to achieve the FAI Club Mark award.

St. Leonard’s FC was established in 1972 and is represented by players from the Gusserane, Ballycullane and St. Leonard’s areas and neighboring parishes. The club grounds are located at Tintern, Ballycullane, New Ross, County Wexford.

The biggest off the field success for the club so far has been the purchase of their own 5.5 acre site next to its existing pitch at Tintern. Numerous times over the history of the club, attempts have been made to purchase land for the club, but they had fallen through. Finally in 2021 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, the clubs dream was realized.

Over the history of the club, they have won many trophies across all codes, from Schoolboys/girls Leagues and Cups to Adult Leagues and Neil O’Sullivan Cup glory.

The re-formation of the clubs Ladies Team has shown how strong the club is in relation to the female side of the game. The success of the underage teams has been borne out by the number of players that have gone on to represent teams in the National League of Ireland.

St. Leonard’s compete in the Wexford League for adult men, the Wexford Schoolboys League and Wexford Ladies & Schoolgirls League. In total the club has over 20 teams competing across all age groups and both genders. Additionally, the club runs their own academy for ages under 6 to under 8. The playing membership of the club is currently around 250.

The club would like to thank its Officers, Committee and Development Committee for all their hard work in achieving the FAI Club Mark award. The club is very much grateful to all of their Managers and Coaches without whom there would be no club.

A final word of thanks goes to all the players and to Brendan Corish, Dean Broaders, Colin Clerkin and all at the Football Association of Ireland for their help and guidance in achieving the award.

The FAI Club Mark is free and optional for clubs and aims to:

  • Improve the management of clubs ‘off the field’
  • Establish and promote best practice
  • Empower and support clubs
  • Recognise and reward clubs for achieving high standards
  • Increase a club’s capacity to operate effectively and grow football in communities throughout Ireland.
