ROUND-UP: Galway secure quarter-final spot with Cork win

23rd Aug 2019

SSE Airtricity League First Division side Galway United ensured Cork City will not appear in a FAI Cup final for the first time since 2015, with a 1-0 victory.

Conor Melody's first-half goal secured the victory for the home side at Eamonn Deacy Park as Alan Murphy's charges look forward to Monday's quarter-final draw.

FAI Cup holders Dundalk came through an extra-time five goal thriller at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium thanks to Georgie Kelly's 117th-minute winner.

Daniel Kelly put the Lilywhites ahead but Derry responded through Greg Sloggett. Daniel Cleary responded immediately but Darren McCauley's 87th-minute goal saw the second round fixture head into extra-time where Kelly secured the quarter-final spot with three minutes remaining.

Bohemians needed penalties to get past a defiant Longford Town in the FAI Cup as goalkeeper James Talbot produces another heroic moment for the Gypsies.

Andre Wright put the home side ahead at Dalymount Park in the first minute of extra-time before Jack Doherty's equaliser saw the game go to spot-kicks where Keith Long's side triumphed.

Shamrock Rovers scored four second-half goals to secure their spot in the final eight as Gary O'Neill, Aaron Greene, Aaron McEneff and Jack Byrne all found the net to beat Drogheda United.

UCD AFC recovered from their 10-1 defeat in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division last week against Bohemians to claim a 3-1 victory over St. Patrick's Athletic.

Liam Kerrigan (2) and Yoyo Mahdy scored the goals as the Students progress in the FAI Cup.
