Quinn and McCarthy back SPAR Primary 5s
Ireland boss McCarthy and new FAI Interim Deputy CEO Quinn met up with Leo Crawford (pictured above, centre), CEO of SPAR Ireland’s parent group BWG Foods, to discuss the Primary 5s at AVIVA Stadium, host venue of the National Finals on May 12th.
In its sixth year as supporters of the programme, SPAR are looking to surpass the 2019 participation figures which saw a record 1,696 schools and over 37,000 children take to pitches around the country.
FAI Interim Deputy CEO Niall Quinn said: “As we enter a new era for Irish football, it was great to hear first hand the phenomenal growth of the SPAR Primary 5s and I look forward to more records this year.”
Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy said: “I was lucky enough to attend the finals day last year and what a great success it was. It was brilliant to see so many boys and girls enjoying the big stage at AVIVA Stadium and I would encourage all schools to be part of this year’s SPAR Primary 5s.”
The fun five-a-side SPAR Primary 5s football programme has gone from strength to strength and is the largest primary school’s programme of its kind in Ireland. Open to boys and girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class, the emphasis is firmly placed on fun, inclusivity and fostering a passion for physical activity
Registration for the programme will close on February 14th, and county blitzes will kick off at the end of February so act quickly and sign up online at www.fai.ie/primary5
