Paul Cooke appointed to FAI board sub-committee

Paul Cooke joins sub-committee of FAI Board with immediate effect

The Board of the Football Association of Ireland has appointed Paul Cooke to the sub-committee overseeing ongoing investigations and procedures at the FAI.

As Mr Cooke has been nominated unopposed for the vacant position of Honorary Treasurer, the Board felt that the addition of his skill set will enhance the group.

A former Director with Waterford United, Cooke is a chartered accountant who has worked as CEO of the Irish Daily Star and the Sunday Business Post newspapers in the recent past.

Welcoming the appointment, FAI President Donal Conway said: “Paul Cooke’s experience in the media industry and in business, coupled with his acumen as a chartered accountant, is a valuable addition to our sub-committee.”

Cooke will join President Conway and Board members Niamh O’Donoghue, Eamonn Naughton, Paraic Treanor and Noel Fitzroy on the sub-committee set up to oversee investigations and processes ongoing at the FAI.

Waterford native Cooke said: “I look forward to working with the Board of the FAI on this sub-committee and I am confident that my business and financial background will be an asset to the processes underway at the FAI.”
 
Paul Cooke is a qualified Chartered Accountant with extensive experience as a senior executive in Irish Business and Media over the past 25 years. In this period he has  served as Managing Director of The Irish Daily Star and Managing Director and significant shareholder in the Sunday Business Post. 

In addition to his business activities, Mr Cooke has had a continuous involvement with football in Ireland as a former Waterford United Director and was also a member of the FAI Council for a number of years. 

He is currently a trustee of Larkview FC in Dublin and a former player-member of the club.
