An impromptu friendly game against Shinrone in 1978 led to Kieran Costello, Gerry Hayes and Matt Douglas forming a club that would encourage and promote the sport of football in the Moneygall community. The growth of the club over a short period led to a second team being formed in 1981/1982 when Moneygall FC had its pitch based in Gravel Park, County Offaly.

The mid 1980’s seen the formation of youth and school children’s football in the club where players joined from neighbouring villages and parishes to enjoy the beautiful game. The club was evolving and recognised that in order to maintain future adult teams, they needed to train and encourage the youth to get involved.

The club in its infancy seen the ‘A’ team promoted after 4 years, contest the 1987 Barry Cup Final and Division 2 Shield, with the ‘B’ Team challenging in 1991 for the Fast-Food Cup and the Division 3 Shield in 1994. In 1995 the Junior A team won promotion to the Premier Division as Division 1 runners-up.

Youth teams were progressing and in 1989, the club won the U16 Cup, in 1991 they won the U18 cup & shield and retained that cup in 1992. The U18’s captured another double in 1994 winning the league and cup and in 1998 the club won the U12 league.

2001 seen continued progression at Junior men’s level with the ‘A’ team appearing as finalists in both the Premier Cup and the Tipperary Cup. In 2004 the Junior team finally captured the clubs first top tier trophy by clinching the Premier Cup. After relegation, Moneygall returned to the Premier by securing promotion in 2005.

In 2011 Moneygall sorely represented the North Tipperary & District League by reaching the 5th round of the FAI Junior Cup. In 2014 the U16s were league winners and in 2015 the U16’s completed a league and cup double. The year 2016 saw continued success with the Junior team reaching the Barry Cup final, the U16’s won the league, the U12’s won the divisional cup & U12 bowl and finished as league runners-up and the U13’s won the regional Cairdeas Cup.

In 2017, the U12’s were bowl winners, the U13’s were finalists in the divisional cup. 2018 seen both U17 & U14’s win their respective divisional shields and the U13’s reached a cup final. 2019 seen the  Junior men win their first ever Division 1 league title securing promotion once again. The U18’s won the league , U15’s won the NTSFL major league Major league also in 2019.

With continual fundraising and patience, the club were successful in acquiring their current grounds and developing a full-sized playing pitch in the heart of Moneygall Village.  2017 seen the ground officially open with the Moneygall Masters v Republic of Ireland Masters. At this point, the club was debt free and had a facility that hosted one of the best pitches in North Tipp Leagues.

The club recognise none of this would have been possible without the support and financial aid of our community and they gave a section of land over for a Community Garden and the construction of a Community Walking Track. The club expresses their sincere gratitude to their hard working committee & volunteers who continue to promote football within our community and work tirelessly to improve every day.
