Golden Camp caps off another record-breaking year
It was clear from early on that this would be a busy year as there were a record amount of bookings for camps on opening day. Some clubs even sold out on the first day!
The excitement carried through the summer months as kids all around the country got out to play sport, made new friends, and had fun.
Here are some key statistics from this year's camps...
- 36,700 participants nationwide
- 5,500 girls participated
- 400 camps took place
- 323 clubs hosted a camp
- 2 Football For All camps
The 13 per cent increase of girls participation is a big success story, but equally as important were the Football For All camps that took place in Cork and Kerry to cater for kids of all abilities.
On September 2, 16 lucky kids (eight girls & eight boys) got to take part in the Golden Camp in FAI National Training Centre.
They were given specific coaching, participated in fun activities, received personalised Golden Camp Kit, picked up a special goodie bag, and then got to meet the Republic of Ireland men's senior players.
Trevor Scanlon, FAI National Camps Coordinator, believes the popularity of the camps will ultimately benefit Irish football as a whole with more kids getting out to play and improve their technique through having fun.
‘’We are delighted to have another record breaking year on this year’s Sports Direct FAI Summer Soccer School’s Camps. We had 36,700 participants nationwide which is great. We had 5,500 female participants, which was an increase of 13% from last year which is fantastic," said Scanlon.
