FAI/ETB Applications open for 2019/2020
The FAI-ETB Player Development programme enables interested participants to achieve their sporting potential and in many cases, to develop a career in professional football. The programme also prepares participants for a career in the sports and leisure industry as well as encouraging them to improve their level of education to enhance their job opportunities.
The courses take place in venues in Clondalkin, Cabra and Irishtown in Dublin, Dundalk, Limerick, Castlebar, Waterford and Blarney and Carrigaline in Cork. The 2019/20 term starts in September.
FAI staff coordinating the courses are UEFA Pro or A License qualified with extensive experience in the professional game in Ireland and beyond and while they are top class coaches, they also provide valuable advice and guidance to trainees looking to break into the professional game.
More than 100 trainees have progressed to the SSE Airtricity League in recent years including five players who have progressed to the Republic of Ireland Senior squad - Matt Doherty, Enda Stevens, Kevin Long, Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan with even more having carved out full time professional football careers in the UK. Girls are also very welcome on the courses and current Irish Women’s National Team captain Katie McCabe and many of her team mates are also graduates of the FAI-ETB course.
As part of the academic side of the programme, trainees will complete a QQI Level 5 Major Award in Sport & Recreation studies plus an ITEC Gym Instructors Diploma, Pool Lifeguard and FAI Coaching Certificates up to National D level. The course is free of charge and trainees can actually receive up to €200 as a Training allowance per week.
