The FAI and the LMA School of Football Management today announced a partnership which will allow coaches with FAI/UEFA qualifications access the LMA online courses to meet the UEFA requirements for retention of their qualifications.

The LMA – The League Managers Association is – is the professional association and collective voice of the 92 football managers in the Barclays Premier League, and the English Football League – Championship, Leagues One and Two.

Members of the FAI Coaches Association can also access these courses at a discount negotiated by the FAI.

Since the LMA launched the first course in 2010, over 1,000 coaches throughout the world have enrolled on these two courses including at least one coach from almost every professional club in England.

The two e-learning courses are:

Course 1: ‘Creating a Culture of Excellence’

Focusing on leadership for soccer coaches and includes interactive tasks and sixhours of video clips with Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello, Roy Hodgson, David Moyes and Howard Wilkinson.

Course 2: ‘Evaluating Performance’ – in conjunction with Prozone Sports the world leaders in Performance Analysis

Focusing on improving how coaches evaluate players and teams the course highlights good practice in English, French, Dutch and Turkish clubs with more than 300 video interview clips from 15 respected experts including LMA Managers, Youth Academies Directors and respected Performance Analysts.

All courses provide the opportunity to network with other coaches in the world’s largest online community of soccer coaches involved in high level soccer.

FAI Head of Grassroots Liam McGroarty believes this partnership will prove very beneficial to members of the FAI Coaches Assocation and Irish coaching in general. He said: “The LMA School of Football Management is an excellent online resource for coaches who want to learn more at the elite end of coaching and management. The course is recognised by UEFA and thus contributes towards CPD requirements for UEFA licensed coaches. It complements the Association’s coaching website coaching.fai.ie by way of providing coaches with a platform to learn from others in their own time.”

Greig Paterson, FAI Coach Education Manager, said: “This new partnership between ourselves and the LMA will give further learning opportunities and educational provision to all our coaches, with the added flexibility of being able to complete extra curriculum courses at their own pace and behest. Moreover, it will give all our Licence coaches the opportunity to attain the CPD hours that they require to maintain their UEFA Coaching Licences, especially those that may not be able to attend our own seminars or workshops held here in Ireland.”

Howard Wilkinson, Chairman of the LMA, said: “We have seen that busy coaches at all levels enjoy the flexibility afforded by online learning to maintain their UEFA qualifications and develop their knowledge in important but often overlooked areas of leadership and evaluation.”

Chris Hughton, Norwich City FC Manager and former Republic of Ireland  International said: “As a LMA member and as a contributor to FAI Coach Education Courses  I am delighted that coaches in Ireland will be able to take advantage of these excellent courses developed by my colleagues within the LMA.”
