FAI hosts first Football Fitness Conference

The FAI's Coach Education Department hosted their first Football Fitness Conference last weekend.
28th Feb 2020

A number of speakers on the day included the FAI's Head of Fitness Dan Horan, Queens Park Rangers' Sports Scientist Dylan Mernagh, Sport Scientist, the FAI's Ger McDermott and SSE Airticity League S&C coaches Darren Dillon (Shamrock Rovers) and Remy Tang (Bohemians).

Sessions took place both on and off the pitch, as the participants learned from those at the top of their respective professions.

Speaking at the Conference, FAI Coach Education Coordinator and Conference Organiser Craig Sexton said the day was a huge success.

"We are delighted with our first ever Football Fitness Conference. The fantastic guest speakers really showcased the direction we are looking to take the content as we move forward. To have the event sold out weeks in advance shows there is a real appetite to develop within the coaching community in Ireland and we look forward to keep progressing all areas of Coach Education."

FAI Coach Education Manager Niall O'Regan added that the Conference shows the progress of Coach Education in Ireland.

"The Football Fitness Conference was another significant success and another great addition to the annual coaching calendar events, where we now have four annual conferences, in the Female Game, Football Fitness, Goalkeeping and our headline National Coaching Conference in IT Carlow.

"The event allowed us to get subject matter experts whom are also practitioners in their field to present to 75 coaches on the modern trends in terms of Football Fitness and I look forward to repeating the event in 2021 where we will be moving the event around the country on an annual basis with Galway the next venue for the Football Fitness Conference."
