FAI Grassroots Club Development Conference takes place

The first FAI Grassroots Club Development Conference took place on Saturday afternoon at the FAI National Training Centre.
26th Jan 2019

Members of grassroots clubs from around the country visited the Conference, with a number of topics and areas discussed on the day including the planning and developing of facilities, increasing girls' football in clubs and how growing community links can help a club thrive.

2018 FAI Club of Year Ballymackey FC put on a presentation to reveal how they have made their club financially stable in recent years.

UEFA's Liam McGroarty and Alf Hansen from the Football Association of Norway also made presentations to those in attendance on the progress of club development around Europe.

Speaking at the event, FAI Club Education and Support Officer Vincent Foley said the event gave the chance for clubs from around Ireland to engage with each other and to improve off the pitch.

"The Grassroots Club Development Conference is aimed at people involved or interested in the management and operations of a grassroots football club. The FAI understands that stronger grassroots clubs leads to a stronger game," said Foley.

"We believe that events like this allow clubs to learn from each other on the different aspects of club management and development. Hopefully this event will help and inspire clubs to take the next step."

FAI President Donal Conway said the engagement from clubs has been very positive throughout the Conference.

"The Club Development Guide was given to everyone in attendance today. It's an invaluable resource for clubs around the country. The clubs will take so much away from today and will empower them in their efforts to improve their clubs going forward."
