Chris Lyons' first-half penalty sealed a famous victory for the SSE Airtricity League First Division side to progress past ten-men Rovers, who saw defender Lee Grace sent off.

There was more First Division success as Finn Harps sealed an extra-time victory against the Premier Division's bottom club Bray Wanderers. Ger Pender put Wanderers ahead at the Carlisle Grounds early on but Sam Todd's equaliser guaranteed extra-time in Wicklow.

The First Division outfit continued their dominance into extra-time as goals from Mikey Place and Jacob Borg sealed a 3-1 victory to progress to the second round.

Bohemians scored seven goals to seal their second round berth as a brace from Dinny Corcoran helped secure the victory against Wexford. Goals from JJ Lunney, Daniel Kelly, Keith Ward, Christian Magerusan and Eoghan Stokes completed the rout at Ferrycarrig Park.

In the Inchicore Derby at Richmond Park, non-league Inchicore Athletic held out until the 56th-minute but eventually succumbed to Premier Division St. Patrick's Athletic. Darragh Markey opened the scoring before braces from Conan Byrne and Jake Keegan secured a 5-0 victory.

Dundalk put their EA SPORTS Cup semi-final defeat behind them with a 3-0 victory over Cobh Ramblers. Stephen Henderson's side achieved a famous result in the League Cup on Monday but it wasn't to be repeated as a brace from Ronan Murray and Jamie McGrath sealed the victory.

First Division leaders UCD were comfortable winners at the UCD Bowl over Pike Rovers as Timmy Molloy and Conor Davis scored to see the Students progress to the second round.

In an all-First Division clash, Shelbourne continued their fine form with a 4-0 victory over Athlone Town. An own goal from Nika Kalandarishvili had Shels ahead at the break before James English, Paddy Kavanagh and Greg Moorhouse completed the scoreline.
