FAI Cup: Champions Cork cruise past Home Farm

Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup Champions Cork City started their defence with a comfortable 5-1 victory over Home Farm.
12th Aug 2018

The Leesiders sealed a comfortable victory within the first 45 minutes at Whitehall to secure their second round spot. Ronan Coughlan notched a brace and Josh O'Hanlon also scored within the first 15 minutes of the game to put the away side into a 3-0 lead.

Barry McNamee added a fourth in the 25th minute before the home team had a moment to savour. Sean Goulding spotted Cork City goalkeeper Peter Cherrie off his line and scored an audacious chip from the half-way line against the FAI Cup Champions.

Kieran Sadlier scored the final goal of the game in the final moments of the first-half as the home side shut out the Premier Division club in the second-half.

In today's other fixture, Limerick were made to work hard for their spot in the second round against Cockhill Celtic. After a goalless first-half, Killian Brouder scored a low 25-yard shot two minutes after the break before Barry Maguire added a second to secure the victory at Charlie O'Donnell Park.

The draw for the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup second round will be live on RTE's Soccer Republic on Monday evening. The programme will begin at 7pm on RTE2 and the draw for the second round will take place during the show.
