Eileen Ring slotted home the opening half match winner as Douglas Hall collected the Women’s FAI Intermediate Cup at Fahy’s Field, Galway today.

After being outplayed for the opening stages, the visitors struck for the decisive goal on 20 minutes.
Stacey Paul provided the delivery over the top and skipper Ring displayed great composure to advance into the box and slip the ball past the advancing Saoirse Burke for a 1-0 advantage.

In a good spell for the Cork side, Megan O’Keeffe rattled the crossbar moments later and Emma McCarthy followed that up with a free kick that went just over the crossbar.

Having to face the elements in the second half, Douglas Hall had to withstand sustained Colga pressure for the duration and throughout their back three of Miriam Reardon, Kate Fitzpatrick and Emma McCarthy were absolutely outstanding.

Time and time again they repelled the home onslaught and despite the prompting of Becky McPhilbin, Keara Cormican and Susie Cunningham, Colga struggled to get a sight of Chelsea Noonan’s goal.

Indeed chances were at a premium throughout and while Colga looked the more threatening in the last third of the park, they never really created a clear opportunity of note.

On the hour mark, Carol Mannion got a flick to an Alana Moran free kick, but her cushioned header was easily gathered by Noonan. The striker later had another effort that was blocked in the box and a late Neasa De Burca free kick bounced in the box and went just over.

Douglas Hall created nothing of note in the second half, but it didn’t matter as Ring’s strike was enough to give Douglas Hall a first ever title at this level.
