Boyne Rovers win first FAI Umbro Women’s Intermediate Shield

An extra-time winner from Kate Gerrard sealed a victory for Boyne Rovers over Manulla FC in the FAI Umbro Women’s Intermediate Shield on Sunday.
28th Sep 2015

Hannah Flatley gave Manulla the lead after 17 mins in what was a very tight and entertaining game in Gainstown. Boyne rallied after the break and deservedly equalised through the impressive Laura Matthews on 48mins. Both sides had chances to snatch the winner before the end but solid defending and some inspired goalkeeping at both ends lead us to extra-time.

Five minutes into extra-time Gerrard popped up to score what proved to be the winner for Boyne. Manulla had chances to draw level before the finish but couldn’t find a way past Aishling Dyer in the Boyne goal.
